Tom Koulopoulos is the founder of Delphi Group, a 20-year-old Boston-based thought leadership firm providing advice on leading edge technologies to global 2000 organizations and government.

Named one of the industry’s most influential information management consultants by InformationWeek magazine he is recognized as an authority on the implications of information technology on global organizations, with articles and market insights appearing frequently in national and international print and broadcast media such as BusinessWeek, the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, The Economist, CNBC, CNN and NPR. His insights provide a beyond-the-edge view of the turbulence created by the collision of technology and business. Tom Peters has called his writing, "a brilliant vision of where we must take our enterprises to survive and thrive." The late Management guru and 20th Century business icon Peter Drucker, said of Tom's writing "[it]makes you question not only the way you run your business but the way you run yourself."

In March 2009, Koulopoulos released his newest book: The Innovation Zone, which looks at an insider's view of how a company can make innovation happen in tough times. He looks at some of the greatest successes and failures of innovation and provides seven lessons that every company must follow to innovate through the tough times ahead. In July, Business Week included The Innovation Zone on its list of "20 Great Summer Reads."

His other seven books include: Smartsourcing, Corporate Instinct, Smart Companies, Smart Tools and The X-economy. During the past two decades Mr. Koulopoulos’ works have introduced core industry concepts, frameworks and vernacular such as Single Point of Access, Touch Points, Digital Control Rooms, Business Operating Systems, Corporate IQ, Information Value Chains, and Smartsourcing that are widely used today in describing the impact of technology on business. His book, Smartsourcing: Driving Innovation and Growth Through Outsourcing, looks at the radical social, organizational and economic impact of globalization and innovation.

His book, The X-Economy, which looks at the radical economic shifts yet to come from the advent of web-based value chains, has been praised highly by industry visionaries such as Dee Hock (Founder of Visa International), Jim Champy (co-author of Reengineering the Corporation), and Don McLagan (founder of NewsEdge). The X-Economy is a thoughtful trip through the evolution of community, commerce and connectivity, from the ancient ruins of Ephesus and the humble beginnings of the Sears catalog to the formation of demand chains and personal portals.

From audiences of more than 5000 to intimate gatherings of just a few dozen, Tom Koulopoulos provides a tour-de-force combination of energy, deep knowledge, business insight and humor in a keynote package tailored for each audience. Tom weaves a rich tapestry of story telling and technology vision for audiences; He explodes on stage with incredible intimacy both with his topics and his audience. Drawing on material from seven books, his experience with an innovation lab,  first hand experience in the trenches with major organizations, and solid business and technology background, Tom Koulopoulos' presentations will do more than motivate and entertain, they will fundamentally change the way you look at the role of technology in your organization and in your life.

Mr. Koulopoulos has also been the Executive Director of the Center for Business Innovation at Babson College, an adjunct professor at the Boston College Wallace E. Carroll Graduate School of Management and a guest lecturer at the Boston University School of Management and Harvard University.

His philanthropic interests include being an early advisor to the non-profit Tech Foundation, which makes technology accessible to the non-profit sector in an attempt to bridge the widening digital divide and an active member of the non-profit Destination Imagination program which teaches creative problem solving and innovation skills to K-12 students worldwide.

Program Topics

Living in the Cloud - The First Megatrend of the 21st Century - So much has been said about The Cloud and its promise that the buzz has become pervasive. Yet, the popular misconception is that the cloud is simply about reducing costs. In today's economic climate, far too much attention is being paid to the short term benefit of cost reduction and not enough on the long term radical change the cloud will bring about in how we build and grow our businesses, how we work and live. In this thought provoking and visionary session, Tom looks at how the cloud alters many of the tenets we've grown up with about work, retirement, business, society, generations and innovation by fundamentally changing the way we look at the creation of value and community. Already presented to dozens of organizations, including many who are betting their future on it, such as Microsoft and HP, Tom's vision of the cloud will wow your audience, challenge their view of the future and change the way they see their role in it.

Get into The Innovation Zone! - Relentless innovation is considered by many business gurus to be the only remaining edge in the global marketplace. Yet most often, innovation is more about serendipity and accidental discovery than concerted effort. In this Keynote, Tom draws on his latest book The Innovation Zone (March 2009) to provide an insider's view of the way innovation happens in leading organizations. You'll learn how to develop innovation as a core competency in your organization. Join the man that Peter Drucker said, "challenges not just the way you run your business but the way you run yourself," as he takes you on this fast-paced and enlightening journey into The Innovation Zone.

Are you Ready to Create the Future? - It's been said the best way to predict the future is to create it! Are you ready to create? In this lively, insightful and palpitatingly fast session you'll get the chance to redefine your own view of creativity while you also work at proving just how innovative you really can be! You hear a great deal about the value of innovation and creativity in today's global economy. But let's face it, aren't great innovators and creative types just born that way?In today's world innovation is a team sport that can and MUST be learned. Innovation requires an open mind ready to challenge the status quo - no mean feat in this climate of belt tightening and budget slashing. But then again there is never an "easy" time to innovate. Come with an open mind and inhibitions checked at the door to join Tom Koulopoulos as he takes your group through a lightning-paced exercise that redefines the fundamentals of creativity and innovation. We promise you'll never look at creativity and innovation the same way again!

Ground Rules of the X-economy - An ideal keynote session to set the stage with a fascinating, yet well-grounded vision of the future. A fast paced tour-de-force of some of the most timely business ideas and technology concepts - delivered in a fascinating, on-the-edge, multimedia presentation that unlocks the concepts behind the most powerful forces and technologies shaping the business, markets and the economy of the 21st Century. Clearly, in times of great change there is a propensity, perhaps even an instinct, to survive by labeling everything. If the world is in chaos we can make it tidy by putting all of he chaos in its place – at least so goes the sensible person’s thinking. But in today’s maelstrom of change this is a naïve and flawed approach. Neat and tidy labels will not slow down the world, calm the volatility of free markets, or quell competition. In this exciting presentation Mr. Koulopoulos helps your group understand far beyond the technology labels, at a base level, why the e-imperative has so radically altered our perception and the skills your organizations will need to survive in the coming years. The dimensions of change for our business and our lives that we are about to encounter have no precedent in generations past. Yet we are all tasked with the daunting responsibility to make decisions at light speed in a context that refuses to stay the same from moment to moment. How will you cope in this new world? Will the basic principles and parables of the past, from technologic to social, hold true for your children, their lives, their work, their organizations? Financial markets, employment, education, are all defying predictable behavior. They are failing us. Somewhere between the apparently limitless opportunity and the terror of being left behind we struggle to redefine the rules, while plummeting towards this great new unknown. In the same way that Newton's view of the world had to give way to Einstein's relativity, which then had to make room for Bohr's quantum mechanics, we too need to replace our 18th century views of business to make way for the advent of new models that can support the pace and complexity of the new X-economy. Get ready to share the vision of how! An ideal keynote session to set the stage with a fascinating, yet well-grounded vision of the future.

The Future of Globalization - Tom draws on his own experiences building an innovation lab in India. Tom looks at the complex human, social, and cultural issues surrounding the impact of globalization. His style and cutting observations are what led Forbes.com to call his views "an incisive view of world trade."

Corporate Instince: Coping at the Speed of Change - An ideal keynote that explains in memorable terms what you need to know to help your own firm develop its own corporate instinct. Corporate Instinct delves into the mechanisms that successful organizations are using to shatter corporate memory - the water wheel that holds us hostage to a single stream of thought - and instead stoke the fire of innovation. It is the sixth sense that enables an organization to react by applying its knowledge and people faster than its competition. Corporate Instinct is the reason some companies are able to continually identify and succeed in new markets, while others are passed by; why some companies are prepared to benefit from good ideas from within, while others seem to lack a basic understanding of themselves, their employees, and their abilities; why some companies are primed to react to the changing demands of the marketplace while others are rendered helplessly numb. How do you create corporate instinct? At its core is a sound set of knowledge management practices. But how do you make knowledge management work for organizations where knowledge tends to be history and where people move around in different roles to bring 'fresh blood', but rarely to bring knowledge. As your organization moves into the 21st century, sharing intelligence and building a knowing, aware enterprise will be the principle challenge and metric of success. Mr. Koulopoulos will explore the fundamental building blocks of a knowledge-based organization's responsiveness and success - its knowledge chain. Using examples from the world’s most innovative companies he will explain in memorable terms what you need to know to help your own firm develop its own corporate instinct.
