Olympic Gold Medal Figure Skater and Dancing with the Stars Champion
Kristi Yamaguchi is one of the most popular and successful figure skaters of all time. She is an Olympic Gold Medalist, two-time World Champion, U.S. National Champion and a four-time World Professional Champion. Yamaguchi retired from competitive skating in 1992 and has since performed in numerous television specials and travelled the globe with Stars on Ice. Along with her many awards and accomplishments, she is a member of the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame, World Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.
In 1996, she founded the Always Dream Foundation dedicated to fundraising and supporting organizations that have a positive influence on children. Since its inception, the Always Dream Foundation has purchased computers for an after-school mentoring program, provided "shopping sprees" for underprivileged children to purchase back-to-school clothing, organized Holiday parties for children's shelters and sponsored summer camps for kids with disabilities. The continuing goal of the organization is to find innovative ways to provide funding for a diverse range of programs designed to inspire and embrace the hopes and dreams of children and adolescents.
In 2002, Kristi was named as the official Goodwill Ambassador for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, a role she cherishes because of her gratitude to the Olympic Games. Kristi also performed in the Opening and Closing ceremonies of these Games.
Kristi recently claimed the title of season six champion of ABC's Dancing With The Stars, becoming the first woman to win since the show's first season. She is married to Stanley Cup Champion and Carolina Hurricanes star, Bret Hedican and together, they have two daughters, Keara and Emma.
