Renowned Business Strategist and
Best-Selling Author of The Game of Business

Jack Stack is Founder, President and CEO of SRC Holdings Corporation. Jack has been called the “smartest strategist in America” by Inc. Magazine and one of the “top 10 minds in small business” by Fortune Magazine.

Open-Book Management

A pioneer of the leadership model known as open-book management, Stack is the author of two books on the subject, The Great Game of Business and A Stake in the Outcome. His expertise in using the open-book model has helped SRC Holdings Corporation start, acquire, and own over 60 businesses and created thousands of jobs since 1983. Along the way, SRC’s stock value has increased 360,000%.

Entrepreneurship

Jack has served as a world judge for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Institute and as an advisor for this group since 1998. Jack designed the first ever United Way Entrepreneurial Fund to encourage innovation within the non-profit community.

Media

He has also served as a contributor for Inc. Magazine and The New York Times and has addressed thousands of audiences on the topic of open-book management.

SRC Holdings Corporation

SRC Holdings Corporation is a 100% Employee-Owned Company employing over 1,200 people, with sales of over $450,000,000 located in Springfield, Missouri. While SRC’s chief business is remanufacturing, the company is best known for being the birthplace of open-book management. Once a failing division of International Harvester, SRC made national headlines when CEO, Jack Stack, used unconventional measures to turn the company around.

The Great Game of Business

Under Stack’s leadership, employees started playing “The Great Game of Business”. The Game was a way to teach employees how business worked in a way that was unintimidating and would make sense to everyone: using the analogy of a game. Using this method, SRC became one of the biggest turn-around stories of its time.

Turn-Around Story

Thirty years later, SRC Holdings Corporation operates 31 business units including joint ventures with John Deere, Case New Holland and Navistar, and maintains two venture capital incubator funds. SRC Holdings Corporation has received international recognition because of its success, including the Top 100 Companies to Work for in America, WorldBlu Most Democratic Workplaces, the National Business Ethics Award and the Business Enterprise Trust Award.

The Great Game of Business

If you are truly ready to experience this kind of growth, perhaps you’re ready for The Great Game of Business. Great Game educates your people in the rules of business, rallies them around a common goal, empowers them to see and improve the score, and engages them by giving them skin in the game. By presenting them with the opportunity to win as a team, it taps into the universal need to win and inspires teams to excel. The principles of Great Game are time-tested to produce the results you see above. Not merely a revised compilation of the same old techniques used by other coaching and consulting firms, The Great Game of Business was born out of necessity… the necessity to win in order to preserve jobs. But the resulting business operating system—rooted in the notion of teams knowing what’s really going on and possessing the authority and responsibility to introduce change and hold a stake in the outcome—is much more than just a set of templates and guiding principles. Unlike other approaches that focus primarily on planning disciplines and the needs of management, ours is a transformational approach to business that not only has the ability to grow businesses, but also to shape the lives and fortunes of its practitioners from the bottom to the top of any organization. Granted, Great Game is not for everyone. But for those business leaders who are looking for true transformation; who understand the upside of an engaged staff; who fantasize about a business life in which others share the burdens often reserved for owners and executive staff; who view prosperity as a journey, not just an outcome, Great Game may just be the Aha moment you’ve been looking for.
