Before he went on television, John Hodgman was a humble writer, expert, and former professional literary agent living in New York City. In this capacity, he has served as the Humor Editor for the New York Times Magazine, Advice Columnist for McSweeney’s, Comic Book Reviewer for the New York Times Book Review, and a Freelance Journalist specializing in Food, Non-Wine Alcohol, “Battlestar Galactica,” and most other subjects. He has also contributed to Public Radio International’s This American Life, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Wiretap.

His first book and accompanying audio narration, The Areas of My Expertise, a satirical tongue-in-cheek almanac which contains almost no factual information, was published in 2005. His second book, More Information Than You Require was published October, 2008.

He appears on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, where he continues to provide commentary as the show’s Resident Expert. In addition to his published written work, he is well known for his personification of a PC in Apple’s "Get a Mac" advertising campaign.  He has also appeared in guest roles as “the person wearing glasses” in a variety of films and TV shows, including “Battlestar Galactica,” a show he once wrote about as a journalist.
