Sheri Salata, the former Executive Producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Co-President of Harpo Studios and most recently Co-President of OWN, Oprah Winfrey’s cable network, is the embodiment of inspirational female leadership. Sheri started as an entry-level promotion producer and ultimately helped steer the creative and strategic direction of the most renowned talk show in television history, working alongside the most celebrated woman in media, Oprah Winfrey.
Leading an Emmy award-winning team, Sheri has touched millions of lives around the world as the show broke cultural barriers and advanced its mission to enlighten and entertain. Sheri – who Arianna Huffington once described as “the visionary behind the visionary”– has been named one of Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business, The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Power 100 and a 2017 Feminist Press Power Award Recipient.
As The Oprah Winfrey Show neared the end of its critically acclaimed 25-year run, Sheri was featured in the popular docuseries, Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes, where her sense of humor, creative leadership and personal style made her a fan favorite. Following the final episode, Sheri began the monumental task of helping to guide OWN through a five-year heralded turnaround into the successful and profitable network it is now.
Today, Sheri is the cofounder of STORY, a female-led media company developing content across print, digital platforms and live events and ORANGE DRAGON PRODUCTIONS, a production company telling stories in television and film. Her original essays can be found on her digital platform story.co, where she has gathered a following of women worldwide through her influencer status on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Sheri’s goal is to take everything she learned from her career as a leader in business and entertainment, and everything she gleaned from working with the world’s most prolific storytellers, to help millions of women worldwide tell a new and more inspired story about their own lives.
Sheri was recently the keynote at our Amazing Women Entrepreneurs Conference. A throng of dynamic millennial women walked into the room looking for guidance. They left the room inspired and empowered, belly-aching with laughter and head purpose-filled. Witty and wise, Sheri uses humor as a conduit for the truth. Her incredible career speaks for itself, yet her grace and humility allow us to see our own journey in hers, giving us hope that we may, too, find a way to change the world.
I saw Sheri speak for the first time a few months ago and I was absolutely blown away by her. For having such an impressive resume and experience, Sheri has mastered the art of being relatable, funny, informative, and inspirational all at once. Charisma pours out of her and she is so likable. She had the whole crowd laughing out loud, endlessly jotting down tidbits of inspiration, and walking away feeling inspired to create their best possible life and career. As the CEO of a business, I took so much away from Sheri's talk that I have implemented within my own organization. I've seen a lot of speakers and attended many workshops but Sheri offered something truly exceptional that I'd never witnessed before.
