Former Seattle Seahawks receiver Steve Largent converted his Tulsa roots and Seattle fame into serious political field position, winning Oklahoma’s 1st District seat in 1994 and being inducted into the National Football Hall of Fame in early 1995.

Steve Largent served over seven years as a Member of the United States Congress, representing the First Congressional District. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Energy and Air Quality Subcommittee and also served on the Telecommunications Subcommittee, the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee and the Environment and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee.

In addition, for the last 8 years Steve has served as President/CEO of the trade association, CTIA- The Wireless Association, that represents all companies in the wireless telecommunications field.

Steve demonstrated leadership in Congress as he led the effort to sunset the federal tax code, an effort aimed at creating a fairer, simpler tax system. He was recognized for his expertise in the debate for electric deregulation to ensure the delivery of affordable power for the country. He worked alongside small oil and gas producers to preserve production for our future security and continued prominence. His seven year voting record reflects Steve's consistent fight for lower taxes, less regulation, personal accountability, individual freedoms, and his belief in free markets.

He had a seat on the powerful Commerce Committee and voted as a strong Christian conservative. Largent, whose father left the family when he was a child, is a vocal advocate of strengthening the family and also of enforcing child support.

In 1990, Steve was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Americans by the Jaycees. In recognition of a lifetime of achievement, Steve was awarded the Golden Plate Award by the American Academy of Achievement in 1989. He was recognized as the NFL Man of the Year in 1988 for his commitment to community service. Steve was also named as the first recipient of the Bart Starr Award by the Athletes in Action for serving as an exemplary role model both on and off the field.

A member of the National Football League Hall of Fame, Steve Largent was a record setting pass receiver with the Seattle Seahawks for 14 years. He set six different career records and participated in seven Pro Bowls. In 1995, Steve Largent was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
